A cleaning appointment is easy to put off, especially if nothing feels wrong. But plaque and tartar build up quietly, gum disease often has no early symptoms, and small problems are far cheaper and easier to treat than the ones that get discovered later.
You might be coming to us because it’s simply been a while, because your gums have started bleeding when you brush, or because you want your kids to grow up seeing the dentist as no big deal. Whatever brought you in, a good cleaning is one of the simplest things you can do for your long-term health.
"I haven't been to the dentist in a while and I'm nervous about it."
"My gums bleed when I brush and I don't know why."
"I want my kids to actually feel comfortable at the dentist."
"It's just been too long since my last cleaning."
If any of that sounds familiar, you're not alone — and you won't be judged here. We'll get you caught up, gently and without a lecture, and set you up on a schedule that actually works for you.
Your hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup, especially in spots your toothbrush tends to miss, then polishes your teeth so they feel smooth and look brighter.
If you have signs of gum disease, you may need a deeper cleaning below the gumline to remove buildup and help your gums reattach to your teeth. It's more involved than a routine cleaning, but it's what actually treats the problem.
Your dentist checks for cavities, gum health, and anything else worth keeping an eye on, with X-rays as needed to see what's happening below the surface.
Most patients do best with a cleaning every six months. If you have gum disease or other risk factors, we may recommend coming in every three to four months instead.

Here’s what a regular cleaning does for you:

Small cavities and early gum issues are far easier — and cheaper — to treat than the ones that go unnoticed for years.

Removing plaque and surface stains leaves your teeth feeling smooth and looking noticeably brighter.

Regular cleanings keep gum disease from taking hold, which protects both your teeth and your overall health.

Staying on schedule with cleanings is one of the most cost-effective things you can do for your dental health long term.

From your child's first cleaning to your own biannual visit, our team knows how to make the appointment easy for every age.

Many of our patients request the same hygienist every visit — someone who knows your history and makes the appointment feel personal.

Step by step
A cleaning is one of the simplest visits you’ll have with us. Here’s what it looks like from your side of the chair:
If you’re due, we’ll take updated X-rays to check for anything that’s not visible during a regular exam.
Your dentist checks your teeth and gums for cavities, wear, or early signs of gum disease before your cleaning begins.
Your hygienist removes plaque and tartar, flosses, and polishes your teeth so your whole mouth feels fresh.
As your family grows and changes, we’re here for every stage — the same team, visit after visit.
Your mouth changes as you adjust, so we schedule follow-ups to fine-tune the fit and address any sore spots.
You’ll leave with a clear picture of your dental health and any next steps, plus a reminder for when to schedule your next visit.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY
950+ five-star ratings on Google. Here’s what a few patients had to say about their cleanings:
We had to switch dentists because of insurance but it has been such a great change! My son is four years old and had a really positive experience with Bright Smile Dental! He didn’t get through a full cleaning at our previous dentist and did everything with ease at Bright Smile. My experience has also been great. The staff is so friendly, professional, and helpful. I’m so glad I found this office and highly recommend!
Love Bright Smiles. Lauren does a great job cleaning my teeth and Dr. Urell is fantastic!!! I don’t think I am an easy patient and he is so patient with me. Dr. Kim is always so nice!
Alexis was very attentive to my needs and comfort level during my cleaning. She took the time to explain everything she did and is super thorough. It was a great experience. I appreciate the entire team. Thank you for the top notch service!
We had a great experience with my sons recent teeth cleaning appointment. The staff was welcoming from the moment we walked in and made us feel comfortable right away. The hygienist was gentle, thorough, and explained each step as she went along, which I really appreciated. The dentist also took the time to check in and answer any questions without rushing. The office felt clean, professional, and organized. Overall, we left with my sons teeth feeling fresh and cared for, and I would definitely recommend this office to anyone looking for a friendly and professional dental team!
I went this morning for my biannual cleaning, xrays and exam. Your new office is beautiful! So much more space to do awesome work. Shannon cleaned my teeth, give her 10 stars, she really made my day. I scheduled my next cleaning specifically with her. As always, it’s great to see Dr. Urell and Dr. Cheung. Finally, my husband and I wanted to thank Derreck for his kindness when he was able to get our daughter squeezed in for a cleaning before she started chemotherapy.
Find helpful answers to common questions about teeth cleanings, cost, and what to expect when working with us.
Cost depends on whether you need a routine cleaning or a deep cleaning, and on your insurance coverage. Most insurance plans cover two routine cleanings a year at little to no cost. We’ll verify your benefits and give you a clear estimate before your visit.
Deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) typically cost more than a routine cleaning since they involve more time and a more involved process below the gumline. If you don’t have insurance, ask us about new patient offers and financing through CareCredit and Cherry — we’ll give you an itemized estimate at your exam.
A routine cleaning usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, including your exam. A deep cleaning takes longer and is often split across two visits, treating one side of your mouth at a time.
You can typically eat right after a routine cleaning. If you receive a fluoride treatment, we’ll usually ask you to wait about 30 minutes. After a deep cleaning with local anesthesia, it’s best to wait until the numbness wears off so you don’t accidentally bite your cheek or tongue.
A deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline and smooths the tooth root to help your gums reattach. It’s used to treat gum disease, not just routine plaque buildup.
Veneers can visually improve mild crowding or minor misalignment, but for more significant crookedness, we may recommend Invisalign first to straighten your teeth before placing veneers, so your results last.
You’ll typically need a deep cleaning if you have signs of gum disease, like bleeding gums, gum recession, or deeper-than-normal pockets between your teeth and gums. We’ll measure your gum pockets at your exam to tell you where you stand.
Most patients should get a routine cleaning every six months. If you have gum disease or other risk factors, we may recommend cleanings every three to four months instead.
You may feel some pressure or sensitivity, but we numb the area first, so the deep cleaning itself shouldn’t be painful. Your gums may feel a little sore or tender for a day or two afterward, similar to any dental procedure.
Yes — routine cleanings are safe and actually recommended during pregnancy, since hormonal changes can make gums more prone to inflammation. Just let us know you’re pregnant so we can adjust anything like X-rays accordingly.
We’re here to help you get back on track with your dental health — let’s get started.
